Pipe four layers of zigzags with tip 97 from the edge of the cupcake to the center. Hint: When piping zigzags, think about two motions simultaneously. The movement of your arm determines the height of the waves and the distance between them. The pressure on your bag determines the thickness of the line. Strive for uniform thickness and even spacing as you go.

Pipe spiraling layers of tip 104 ruffles, starting at the edge of the cupcake. Hint: Moving your hand quickly up and down will give you a tight ruffle. For a looser look, move more slowly across the surface. Practice different looks to perfect your pressure control.

Pipe a layer of tip 12 beads from the edge of the cupcake to the center, then overpipe with a second layer. Hint: When piping a bead, relax pressure as you draw the tip down and bring the bead to a point. Stop squeezing, and pull the tip away.
