Just about any snack you love can be made more mouthwatering with a dip in melted Candy Melts®. This past weekend I dipped everything from cake balls to bacon (yes, bacon!) and came out with some interesting and tasty options!
With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, I chose to go with a shamrock-green theme. Luckily, Wilton offers sprinkles and Candy Melts® in an array of colors that could be adapted to fit any theme. Candy Melts® are so easy to use, they make dipping foolproof. Simply follow the melting directions on the bag for melting in the microwave. Candy Decorating Bags are PERFECT for melting the Candy Melts®. You can melt right in the bag, then snip the tip to decorate. Plus, you can toss them when you are finished – no cleaning required!
Potato Chips + Candy Melts® = Salty, yet sweet with a crisp bite. These scrumptious snacks didn’t last long around my house!
To make these, I melted the dark cocoa Candy Melts® using our Chocolate Pro™ Electric Chocolate Melter. The melting pot is nice because it keeps the Candy Melts® at the perfect temperature so you don’t have to keep reheating. Once I dipped my potato chips, I placed them on a cooling rack with some foil underneath (parchment paper would have worked too).
I decorated two versions, drizzled and sprinkled. Both were very easy and pretty! For the drizzled ones, I simply drizzled melted vibrant green Candy Melts® in a candy decorating bag over the chip. For the sprinkled ones, I used Wilton light green sugar on the Candy Melts® before they dried.
Strawberries + Candy Melts® = One of my favorite treats! Strawberries are sweet and juicy and the light cocoa Candy Melts® complemented them perfectly. Plus, they were a lot of fun to decorate! I love the green gradient strawberries! I made these by melting 3 colors of Candy Melts® (dark green, vibrant green and white).
I started by dipping the strawberry in the white Candy Melts® and let them cool on a cookie sheet for about 5 minutes in the fridge. Then I repeated that process for the other two colors allowing time to dry in between colors. The result was very fun!
Pretzels + Candy Melts® = Crunchy 3-leaf clovers! For these clovers, I dipped each pretzel individually. I then laid them on a baking sheet with the sides touching each other. After they cooled, I used a candy decorating bag to pipe vibrant green Candy Melts® around the corners creating a clover.
Crackers + Candy Melts® = These have a great mixture of butter and salt that accompany the Candy Melts® nicely! The stripes on this couldn’t have been easier! All I did was dip the Candy Melts® in Light cocoa and let set until cool. Then, I drizzled Candy Melts® in white, vibrant green and dark green over top.
Crispy Thick Cut Bacon + Candy Melts® = A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! You simply can’t go wrong with this sweet/savory combo! You may find yourself saying, “I don’t want to love this… but I just do” — I know I did! For some color, top the bacon with a bit of orange zest (if you candy the orange zest first it will taste even better). This is love at first bite!
St. Patty’s Cake Balls + Candy Melts® = A very moist and decadent treat perfect for St. Patty’s day cocktail parties! These bite sized pieces of bliss are sure to be a hit!
St. Patty’s Cake Balls
1 package (about 16.5 oz.) Devil’s Food cake mix
1 package (3.9 oz.) chocolate instant pudding mix
2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup Irish whiskey OR 1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 13 x 9 in. pan with vegetable pan spray.
In large bowl, combine cake mix, pudding mix, sour cream, oil, whiskey, eggs and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer on low speed 1 minute. Scrape down sides of bowl; continue beating on medium speed 2 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing if needed.
Bake cake 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Use 1/2 for cake balls; reserve other half for another use.
1/2 cup Wilton Ready-to-Use White Icing
3 tablespoons Irish cream (optional)
In small bowl, stir together icing and Irish cream; mixture will not be very smooth. Add to crumbled cake and form into balls.
Now you’re ready to dip! Just plop the cake balls into the Candy Melts®. I like to use forks to retrieve cake balls from the Candy Melts®. Place the freshly-dipped cake balls onto a cookie sheet to cool. You can sprinkle the cake balls with sprinkles while the Candy Melts® are still wet. Or you can drizzle another color on top once the Candy Melts® have cooled.
