Stacked cakes always look stunning, even if they’re just a two-tiered cake, but I’ve been intimidated by them for a while. My decorating skills have certainly grown a lot since I started working at Wilton two and a half years ago, but it wasn’t until recently that I made a tiered cake all on my own. Are you wondering how to make a tiered cake? If you’ve never stacked cakes before but would like to try, never fear! I’m here to walk you through just how I made this purple cake with neon flowers.

A Whimsical First Birthday

First birthdays are a big milestone, and many parents strive to come up with a unique theme that captures the spirit of their son or daughter. Jenny Streicher is no different.

As a Senior Content Designer in the Wilton Decorating Room, she spends her days developing new designs and decorating ideas for cakes and sweet treats. Naturally, Streicher wanted to design and decorate her daughter’s first birthday cake on her own. However, she didn’t stop at one cake – she made five different cakes that created one whimsical first birthday.

Statement Birthday Cake

Messaging becomes even bigger in 2016 with stylized lettering, bold font styles and fun sayings.  This cake shouts the message that the birthday boy or girl is now five years old.  The letters for the top of the cake are easy to make using Decorator Preferred white fondant tinted to a favorite color.  The sides of the cake feature decorations colorfully piped icing.
