8-Flavor Filled Bake Sale Recipes

Earlier this fall, I was walking out of our church and happened upon several friends gathered around a table of sweets overflowing with little bags and bundles of various treats from oatmeal cookies and chocolate brownies to rice cereal squares and another cereal sweet snack fondly known as “puppy chow” (my daughter’s favorite).  I learned that the bake sale was inspired by a few teens who wanted to send relief to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The word spread quickly, resulting in an abundant selection of family favorites begging for a buyer to support the teens’ mission.  A familiar scene no doubt was happening outside churches, schools, fields and store fronts in many towns across the nation, raising money not only for hurricane victims, but soccer teams, marching bands, class trips, dance troops, football teams and a myriad of other causes, banking on the draw of yummy, home-baked sweets and the big hearts of friends and neighbors.

I’m so excited to share this project from my new book, Treat Yourself! This Gumball Machine is not only the most colorful project in Treat Yourself!, but using Wilton Candy Melts as gumballs makes it extra easy to make (and extra sweet). I use Candy Melts often in my creative Crispy Rice Treats, but here, they’re front and center. Choose your favorite Candy Melt colors to represent your favorite sports team, or do what I did and go rainbow! Just mold your Gumball Machine and use Wilton Decorating Icing to stick ’em on!

Can you think of any better way to get through the rest of the week? A few months ago, I attended a culinary conference and had the pleasure of attending a wine tasting hosted by Kendall-Jackson Wine. Not only was the wine amazing, but the food paired with it was delicious. It never ceases to amazing me how the right wine and food pairing can completely change the taste of a dish!

The wine and food pairing got me thinking…what if we pair our Wilton recipes with Kendall-Jackson Wines? After some brainstorming, the Wine Wednesday series was born! The Wilton Test Kitchen sent some recipes to the wine experts at Kendall-Jackson, and they perfectly paired each recipe with one of their wonderful wines.
