A voluminous ring of piped buttercream flowers in varying shades with pops of contrasting color personifies this stop-and-stare look of the year. The variety of flowers within the arrangement adds additional interest. Don’t be intimidated. Each flower is piped separately, then frozen and added to the cake top later.

The latest cupcake creation from Beth at Hungry Happenings has my heart fluttering. These beautiful peach cobbler flavored cupcakes are just perfect in Wilton’s butterfly pleated baking cups. Beth’s inspiration for these cupcakes comes from her mother and are a lovely little sweet treat for Mother’s Day.
I come from a long line of bakers, including my great-grandmother, Elizabeth. My grandmother likes to tell a story about how her nephew, Tom, always loved the center cinnamon roll. One morning, he passed when the rolls came around, saying he was too full. Everyone else at the table knew he was actually hoping they would come back around to him—including my great-uncle, who took the center roll on purpose! (Clearly, I’ve inherited not only my baking ability, but also my contrary nature from that side of the family).
We’ll start with Marilyn from Pink Martinis and Pearls, who has fond memories of watching her mother bake in the kitchen. Every birthday was celebrated with a homemade cake and one day, her mother made a chocolate cake that has since earned the title of “best ever in all the land”. This cake has even won 2 blue ribbons at county fairs! But before I steal Marilyn’s thunder, I’ll let her tell the story herself, as she does it so well.
Mother’s Day is a very special day, as it is a day that recognizes the life-long efforts and sacrifices by our mothers. Sometimes this special date is just related to gift giving, but there are many other ways of showing our mothers our gratitude. One of the best ways is by preparing something for them, and what better than a delicious quiche made with her favorite ingredients! (more…)
On Mother’s Day, I recognize my sister Cindy because she has been like a mother to me. From watching after me when I was young to applying my make-up for Prom, I’ve always felt lucky to have a “second” mother. Since Cindy is an avid gardener, I wanted to gift her with an edible flower bouquet – Voila – Cake Pops! Sure, I could have taken the easy way out and ordered flowers, but gifting homemade treats that come from the heart is more meaningful. (more…)
