6 Flavored Buttercream Frosting Recipes

Monday, August 7th, 2017

6 Flavored Buttercream Recipes | Wilton Cake DecoratingThe perfect compliment to a delicious cake is luscious buttercream made from scratch. Even if you’ve never made buttercream frosting before, you’ll find it’s quite simple to make. All of the recipes below, except for the key lime buttercream recipe, are made with half butter and half shortening. If you prefer your frosting to be all butter or all shortening, you can easily substitute the amount called for in the recipe.

For the smoothest buttercream, I highly recommend sifting your confectioners’ sugar before starting. I find this makes it the best consistency! Always beat your butter and shortening together first until the mixture is light and fluffy. Follow the instructions for each recipe regarding any liquids (such as vanilla) or other flavorings that need to be added. Add confectioners’ sugar one cup at a time, beating after each addition.

Tired of plain old buttercream? Try out one of these delicious flavored buttercream recipes below!

Pick the Perfect Pie: Meal & Pie Pairings Guide

Monday, October 17th, 2016

Meal & Pie Pairings | WiltonWhen I invite people over for dinner or plan a family meal, I often approach the menu backwards…what’s for dessert?  That’s just my inner sweet tooth driving the get-together, but I often bake a pie or tart to feature seasonal ingredients that I want to share while they are at their peak. It keeps family and friends sitting at the dinner table as long as possible, sharing stories, sipping wine or coffee. However, to make menu planning a little easier and frankly more “straight forward,” here is a primer on matching some of our best Wilton main dishes to favorite pies, marrying flavors and textures to make simple meals worth repeating or improvising to suit your taste and pantry.

Trending Now: 7 Magic Cake Recipes

Wednesday, September 28th, 2016

BlogImages-7-Magic-CakesHere at Wilton, we do our best to stay on top of what’s trending in the dessert world – especially when it comes to cake! Magic cakes are now on our radar, and I had to do a little reading to discover just what they are. Turns out magic cake has been around for several years, but thanks to social media, magic cake recipes have been thrust into the spotlight.

Magic cake is a fairly simple batter that has been mixed and baked all at once. This single batter magically separates into three layers: a dense bottom layer, a custard-like middle layer, and a cakey top layer. They’re typically made in an 8×8 square pan so that they rise nice and high. The Wilton Test Kitchen is working on a new magic cake recipe that we’ll share soon, but in the meantime, check out this round up of magic cake recipes.
