Welcome to week two of Wine Wednesdays! If you missed our first Wine Wednesdays post, we’ve paired up with Kendall-Jackson Wine for a five-part series that pairs one of their wines with a Wilton dessert recipe.

That’s just my inner sweet tooth driving the get-together, but I often bake a pie or tart to feature seasonal ingredients that I want to share while they are at their peak. It keeps family and friends sitting at the dinner table as long as possible, sharing stories, sipping wine or coffee. Here at Wilton, we do our best to stay on top of what’s trending in the dessert world – especially when it comes to cake! Magic cakes are now on our radar, and I had to do a little reading to discover just what they are. Turns out magic cake has been around for several years, but thanks to social media, magic cake recipes have been thrust into the spotlight.
Magic cake is a fairly simple batter that has been mixed and baked all at once. This single batter magically separates into three layers: a dense bottom layer, a custard-like middle layer, and a cakey top layer. They’re typically made in an 8×8 square pan so that they rise nice and high. The Wilton Test Kitchen is working on a new magic cake recipe that we’ll share soon, but in the meantime, check out this round up of magic cake recipes.
