It’s finally summer! What better way to welcome summer and a friend’s birthday than with flip flops. Flip flop cookies, that is!
I started by making my favorite sugar cookie recipe, rolled out the dough, then cut out the cookies with the foot cookie cutter (or you could use our new Summer Cookie Cutter Set.) I baked the cookies on parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Once baked, I put them on a cooling grid and patiently waited for them to cool.
Decorating was a snap with the white Cookie Icing. I removed the lid and the safety seal and popped it in the microwave. Once heated, I outlined my cookies and filled them in with the icing.
Now came the fun part – decorating them!!! I started with Sugar Sheets and used the Rotary Cutter to cut strips. It worked great! Then I took the Flower Chain Border Cutting Insert and put that in the Border Punch Set and punched out some flower chains. I then cut them apart with kitchen scissors. You could also use the Rotary Cutter for this.
I was ready to assemble my flip flops. I crossed over my strip to form the strap and pressed that on the iced cookies. I took a little Cookie Icing and dabbed it on the back of the flower and put that on the center of the strap. I then used Confetti Sprinkles to make the center of the flower by adding a little Cookie Icing to the sprinkle with a toothpick and pressed that on the flower center.
My sassy sandals were decorated in no time flat!
