This year I plan to host a Halloween party. The first thing I thought about was “what dessert will I serve?” My guests always look forward to my desserts, so I know it has to be special.
The first icons that pop into my mind when I think about Halloween are skeletons and graveyards. I was able to find the perfect cake idea on our website – the Creepy Skeleton Casket 3-D Cake.
With the Skeleton-In-Casket 3D Pan, I can create a cake that looks like a skeleton trying to escape from his coffin. I don’t know how you can match my theme any better. I wanted to use this cake as the centerpiece of my dessert selection.
It was extremely easy to bake this cake. The cake removes from the pan so easily and looks so good, you don’t have to decorate it to impress your guests.
After allowing the cake to cool for 1 1/2 hours, I was ready to decorate! I used White Decorator Icing and tip 5 to outline the skeleton design. I used a tapered spatula when icing the skeleton’s face. I let the icing set up for 5 minutes and then pressed the icing down to make it completely flat.
I also added brown icing color to the White Decorator icing and used tip 1D to decorate the side of the coffin (cake). When using this tip, be sure to keep the side of the tip with teeth against the cake. This will make the outward appearance of the cake flat. Voilà! The skeleton in your cake looks like he’s coming to life.
Placing cupcakes around the cake will give my guests a variety of options to select. While on the Wilton website, I was able to find cupcake decorations that matched the theme of my party. These decorations are part of the Graveyard Cupcake Decorating Kit, the Spooky Cupcake Combo Pack and the Creepy Sprinkles Lab.
Once my cake was finished, I began making spooky cupcakes. I used my favorite yellow box cake mix. When I was preparing the pan for baking, I lined each cavity with the cups provided in the Cupcake Combo Pack. I then filled the baking cups 3/4 of the way with batter and baked the cupcakes for 18 minutes. Once my cupcakes were cooled, I began to ice them with green and orange tinted icing and a 1M tip.
To add a little more festivity, I topped some cupcakes with sprinkles from the Creepy Sprinkles Lab and used the Graveyard Cupcake Decorating Kit to make headstones popping out of the cupcakes. I also inserted the picks that came in my Spooky Cupcake Combo kit into the top of the remaining cupcakes.
I also made some bone-shaped candies with the Wilton Halloween Bones Candy Making Kit. This was very easy. All you need to do is place Candy Melts® candy in the microwave until they are completely melted and then squeeze them into the pre-made molds. Once they cooled in the refrigerator, I was able to pop them out of the mold and use them as decorations on the dessert table.
The final projects turned out amazing. Hopefully my guests don’t get too scared when they see what we are having for dessert. Be sure to check out our website for another idea using this pan – Too Ghoul Casket 3-D Cake.
