Welcome to another edition of Wine Wednesday! I’m so excited to take the reins from Stephanie and share another delicious wine and dessert pairing with you all. If you’re just now joining us, check out the first three posts in our series with Kendall-Jackson wine:
This week, we’re pairing Wilton’s Pink Grapefruit Cake with Kendall-Jackson’s Vintner’s Reserve Riesling (you may remember this wine from week 2)! Ok, so a multilayer cake may look a little elaborate for a mid-week treat, but using Wilton’s Easy Layers round pan set makes the whole cake come together quickly and easily. It also makes a pretty impressive end to a weekend dinner party, if you’d prefer.
The cake is sweet with a hint of signature grapefruit tartness, which makes it a perfect pairing for the Riesling. K-J’s Vintner’s Reserve Riesling is sweet enough to match the sweetness of the cake, tart enough to be interesting, and floral and fruity enough to match the grapefruit-scented cake. A general rule of thumb for wine and dessert pairing is that the wine should be as sweet or sweeter than the dessert you’re serving, and this duo is perfectly balanced.
