6 Easy Buttercream Flower Cupcakes for Mother’s Day

May 5th, 2015 by Desiree Smith

Looking for an easy Mother’s Day gift that mom will eat right up? Look no further. All you need for this project are a few things, including: a disposable decorating bag and decorating tip number 104!

To get started, all you have to do is bake off a batch of mom’s favorite cupcake flavor, whip up some buttercream and color your icing in a bouquet of mom’s favorite colors. Or, if you’re like, grab yourself a tub of Ready-to-Use Decorator Preferred Icing to get right to the fun stuff — decorating.

Is mom a big fan of certain color or shade? Not sure how to mix that color? No worries. Try the New Color Right Color System. It’s easier than ever to mix and match colors, including mom’s favorites. My mom’s favorite is purple. I’ll be making a bouquet of spring pink, orange and purple to surprise her with this Mother’s Day. In case you’d like to re-create these exact colors, here’s the step-by-step printable instructions!

How will you celebrate mom this May? Let us know in the comments below.

We live in Sacramento CA, and had a horrible problem last week with trying to make buttercream icing for a graduation party. I’ve made the buttercream recipe many times with great success, but not this time. I do hear that CA is banning all transfat within 3 years, I use a vegetable shortening with transfat, but all of the frosting turned to greasy glop. This was incredibly frustrating.

Has Wilton changed their recipe to counteract this issue? We use the shortening, water, salt, powdered sugar, vanilla and meringue powder recipe that our instructor gave us and haven’t had a problem up until last weekend.

PLEASE answer, as soon as this message is received. Thank you very much.
