Mine is a question but didn’t know where else to put it. Your instructions on the cake box for the checkerboard cake recipe says to divide batter “in half” to make the chocolate portion. What is the total or half batter volume? “Eyeballing it” is OK but I’m not comfortable with the splitting. Thanks a million. Dee

    • Dee, according to our Test Kitchen, it depends on the manufacturer and your technique for making the mix. From our following package instructions exactly (including using a timer) with the Kitchenaid mixer, the batter ranges from 4 3/4 to 5 1/2 cups. If a smaller mixer was used or the mix wasn’t beaten long enough, the volumes might be less. If you want to be exact, we suggest measuring out the batter cup by cup between 2 bowls. Hope this helps.
