Cookie Exchange Across the Miles

December 9th, 2009 by Shawn Broda

You’ve probably already guessed from the other posts that Wilton employees love to find reasons to celebrate at work! The holidays are no exception, especially this year. We all have Cookie Exchange fever! I manage a great team of 7 people that love to bake, and I thought a Cookie Exchange would be a fun and festive way to celebrate the season together. One problem, though – we live in 7 different cities!

Cookies in PackagingSince a face to face get together would have been a little difficult, I used the guide in the Wilton Cookie Exchange Book to set up a Cookie Exchange Across the Miles. Everyone baked a dozen cookies for each person on the team, including themselves. We were all encouraged to be creative with Wilton boxes and packaging to make each dozen special, and we had to include our recipe and an explanation for why we chose it. On a designated day, we put our packages in the mail, all to arrive within a week. We will then have a conference call to “eat our cookies together” and share the fun.

Creative Cookie BoxesToday is the big mailing day for our exchange, and I had so much fun making my cookie packages yesterday! I couldn’t decide between my two favorite family recipes, so I gave everyone six of each kind. I wrapped them in holiday plastic wrap and tissue paper and placed them in a Square Treat Box, tucking my recipe story on top. I decorated the boxes with festive stickers, and they were ready to go!

Everyone on my team was equally excited about getting their cookies ready to share. I can’t wait until the packages start arriving, I know I’m in for a treat — actually, more like 7 dozen of them!

Celebrations provide a common thread between cultures, and she is amazed and inspired by the excitement people have for Wilton products and programs, no matter where they live. Shawn loves cooking, baking and decorating, especially when she can share her creations with others.

Hi Shawn, just wanted to let you know that I will be hosting a cookie exchange for past and present Wilton students. My students are very excited to participate. If all goes well, I may make this a holiday tradition. Happy Holidays and Happy Baking.

Steph, what a great idea. And with the number of former students you have, I have a feeling you are going to have A LOT of cookies. Let me know how it goes!
