Create the Perfect Decorating Surface with Spray-N-Seal Crumb Sealing Spray

April 30th, 2013 by Laura Hartnett

At Wilton, we know that the foundation of a beautifully decorated cake is a perfect decorating surface. We also know that a common decorating challenge is perfectly icing a cake free from crumbs. In fact, when we asked our Facebook community to list their top decorating frustrations, getting crumbs in their icing led the list.

Given the importance of the right decorating surface and the frustration felt by many, we dedicated ourselves to developing a product that made it easier to get that smooth decorating surface – no matter what your skill level. Our new Spray-N-SealTM Crumb Sealing Spray does just that.

”Wilton Spray-N-SealTM is easy to use. Simply spray your cake thoroughly, chill in the refrigerator for 3 minutes and you’re ready to ice your cake. This coconut oil based spray is tasteless and will melt right into your cake and icing, so only you know it’s there.

The time saved using Spray-N-SealTM allows you to get to what is most important – the decorating! At Wilton, we make it easy, you make it amazing.

Please watch our quick video as Beth demonstrates Spray-N-SealTM Crumb Sealing Spray.

Could you list the ingredients of this spary?

  4. Tina says:

I think this is a great idea, however coconut oil solidifies at temps lower than about 75 degrees. In cold weather will this product still function properly?

  5. Naazia says:

wow, amazing….is this product halaal suitable?

  6. Joanne says:

I would have been more impressed had she iced the sides and there were no crumbs. Also, what is the propellant used for the spray? What are we trading off for the sake of convenience and to save about 20 minutes?

I haven’t seen this before, but being a wilton product I’m sure its expensive. With that being said I believe sticking my cake in the freezer to “harden it” before icing works just as well especially if you are making shapes.

  9. June says:

Like many other’ I am interested in all the ingredients. Sounds great and if u r doing a quick cake you don’t have to freeze it although that is the Best way to get moist cakes and easy icing application at the same time.

Does this work on sculpted cakes?
Also the top of that cake looks suspiciously like its been gnashed or iced ?????
And agreed being Wilton will be grossly over priced

  15. Rebekah Adams says:

You couldn’t use it if your allergic to coconuts right? So could something be made without the coconut oil in it. This sounds really great though.

  20. Karen says:

Can you apply fondant directly to the cake after spraying with this?

    • Rebecca says:

I also want to know if this will save a step to place fondant directly over it? Please answer!

      • Desiree Smith says:

        Hi Rebecca,

You still need a coating of icing after using Spray-N-Seal before applying fondant. It is not recommended to apply fondant directly to the cake after using Spray-N-Seal.

        Thank you.

  21. Sheila says:

I’m new to the world of cake decorating, I really like the idea of the seal, I hate crumbs makes it hard to decorate. I will try the spray and I will also try freezing the cake to see which one I think works better.

I still don’t see an ingredient list. Sure would be a shame to hunt down the product just to read the label and find I can’t use it. Please if you could help us all out, that would be great.

Hello. I have enjoyed the many helpful hints and answered questions on this thread as well as others. I am hoping that your moderator removes the hate comment posted 19Aug2014 by Mann in response to Naazia’s legitimate question from 30Apr2013 inquiring if the product meets halal standards. I won’t use sites which do not moderate hate commentary and abuse.
