Wilton works with distributors all over the world. This year, we invited our international distributors to join in our holiday celebrations by decorating a gingerbread house for the holidays! Today, please enjoy this house from Dan Tucker in the United Kingdom.
I love Christmas time and the magic that seems to be in the air at this time of year, especially the smell of gingerbread!
I remember when I was a child, my younger brothers and I were always so excited, my mum always had trouble getting us to settle down and told us that the quicker we went to sleep the quicker Santa would come. Well, I remember putting myself to bed at 4 p.m. that year!
Although it didn’t help as my brothers and I ended up staying awake way past our actual bedtime. Then it happened, we heard it, the bells! My mum popped her head back into our room and we asked excitedly if she heard the bells and what was it?! She told us that those was the bells on Santa’s sleigh and that he and the reindeer have flown by and saw we were not asleep. He will only come back once more, my mum said, and if we are not asleep he will not stop. Well as you can imagine that did the trick and we were all asleep within minutes. This led to lots of questions the next day as I wanted to know where the reindeer live and what they do when not flying. My Gran decided to take the reins on this question and gave my mum and dad a break “They live in a magical gingerbread barn,” my Gran told us. With that she promptly took us to the kitchen and helped us create a magical gingerbread reindeer play barn!
I have kept this tradition alive with my nephews. This year they wanted trainee reindeers to be playing in a ball pit (my nephew’s favourite place) and use the balls as noses to run around and pretend to be like Rudolph. We also added Christmas lights, oh and candy canes and chocolate and snow and, and, and, and the list of sweets and additions went on. This is what we ended up with!
Candy Melts roof tiles, strawberry pencil sweet log barn, matchmaker/candy cane playpen, Vanilla Custard flavour royal icing snow (Using Wilton Treatology) and a night light so the reindeer don’t get scared in the dark. I drew the line at adding a satellite dish and Xbox stating they could watch TV or play games until they had learned to fly at Reindeer School. For our reindeer, I decided to use this Reindeer Cookie Cutter set to bake our herd.
That completes our Gingerbread House Kit, so much fun and so easy with the Wilton Kit. Happy Holidays!
