Grown-Up Halloween Treats

September 11th, 2009 by Angie Thayer

Halloween is one of the biggest holidays celebrated, second only to Christmas. This year it lands on a Saturday so it’s not just about the kids anymore. In fact, two-thirds of adults will enjoy Halloween activities this year! I can’t wait because I am hosting my first Halloween party for friends and family. I have the costume picked out for my husband and me, but I need to get the drink menu put together (since it is for adults).

Wilton has a whole line of fun and unique drink related items for the party – you can check them out on the video below. No one will want to leave the bar area after seeing my set-up. Guests will be able to stir up the spirits by using Skeleton Arm Ice Kabobs as drink stirrers or enjoy a shot of their favorite beverage in Halloween Molded Ice Glasses. Creepy cubes (ice cubes that is) made with the Skull Ice Cube Mold can be used to keep the drinks cold. You can also add coloring from the Halloween Drink Coloring Kit to tint the water before making the cubes. My guests will have a bone chilling experience when they see the skull ice mold sitting in the punch.

I have a lot of friends and my mom (sorry if I let your secret out mom) that like cutesy cocktails. The Halloween Rimming Sugar is perfect to add that special touch to the glasses. And then, I can use the picks to hold the garnishes. The wine Halloween bottle labels also make the set-up more festive.

If you ask anyone who knows me they will tell you I am quite a neat freak. Therefore, the skull felt coasters are right up my alley. I won’t have glass rings on my coffee tables!

Thanks to Wilton, my Halloween party is going to be great!

I bought these at the Dollar Tree store. They come in a pack of 4 and they also have some larger labels for 2 liter soda drinks.

I’m interested in attending the master course in IL. I’m in MT, is there any reasonably priced place to stay for the two weeks? I’m very interested in starting a cake decorating business here, (the only place to get a cake currently is Albertson’s) but I haven’t even made a flower yet.

    • Angie Thayer says:

It sounds like there is great potential for a cake decorating business in your area! The Master’s Course is the perfect class to get you started. I took the course when I started working at Wilton and can’t believe the things I can do now.

I’m wondering if the large skull ice mold is also available at Michaels? That looks like a must have for me?

    • Angie Thayer says:

Kaye – To answer your questions, yes, the large skull ice mold is available at Michaels. I agree, it is a great item because you can do so many things with it.

After using the product I would love to hear what you made with it and how your guests and/or family responded.

I love Wilton’s products but very disappointed that I can not order online. I live 100 miles from any town that has a Michaels store and do not have the time or money to travel. Please let us order online. I do alot of decorating cookies and cupcakes for my grandkids school and sports parties. I also do alot of entertaing and would love to just be able to order online. Thank you……..

Thanks for all the great Halloween treat ideas. They will definitely come in handy.

  9. Pam says:

I would like to know if the mold the ice molded glass can also be used to bake in. This would be a great cupcake to add a filling in. Thank you

    • Angie Thayer says:

Pam, while this mold makes fun shot glasses, we don’t recommend baking in this mold. The wall of the baked product would be too thin and too tall to release nicely from the mold. I’m afraid you’ll just get crumbs!

I just bought the shot glass ice molds and was wondering how the internal canal was colored on the photo on the packaging? It really provides good contrast so you can see the skulls on the sides that I think may be lost if it’s just all one color. Thanks!

    • Angie Thayer says:

First make the ice mold using water. When the water has turned to ice pop out the molds. Keep them in the freezer until you are ready to serve. Immediately before serving, fill the molds with your favorite colored drink. Red, green or blue colored drinks work best to get the effect you are looking for.
