If you’re wondering how to decorate a plain cake quickly, we’ve got 4 easy ways to make Insta-worthy cakes for a birthday, shower or party. A perfect cake doesn’t have to be complicated – it can be as easy as adding a few colorful sprinkles. All you need are a few basic tools and some bold color to deliver picture-perfect results that are trendy, memorable and won’t wreck your budget (or your kitchen).

SPRINKLED IN A SNAP CAKE

Use one of our ready-made sprinkles mixes or make one of your own using seasonal colors or your party’s palette. First birthday? Try primary colors or star or plane shapes. Anniversary? Use gold confetti and sugar pearls. This technique works best with fresh icing that’s not yet set. Use to pipe swirls along the top of the cake, then top with your sprinkles mix. Carefully press the remaining sprinkles around the bottom of the cake, rotating your cake platter as you go. Use the leftovers to decorate the plate for a cake and – just like that – you’re party-ready!

FLOWERS IN A SNAP CAKE

An oversize flower piping tip and periwinkle blue icing make for a memorable cake that is simple but sweet. Use an oversize bag and tip to pipe single flowers along the edge, turning your plate as you go for a flowered crown effect. The contrast of the textured flowers and smooth edge work wonderfully for smash cakes, birthdays and wedding or baby showers.

SWEET VIBES IN A SNAP CAKE

To add sweetness and color to a smooth-iced cake, there’s nothing easier than melted candy. Use our printed template under parchment paper to pipe “VIBES” with bright pink candy. Pour melted turquoise candy over the top of the cake and sprinkle colorful rainbow chip crunch on the edges. Peel each letter off the parchment and stand it up in the center of the melted candy for a message cake that sets the mood at your next party.

PAINTED IN A SNAP CAKE

For a stunning finish that’s deceptively easy to achieve, try “painting” your cake using gentle strokes of multicolored icing. To bump up the drama, make a number template (or use ours) out of parchment paper and press into the side, icing over it. Once you’re done, use a toothpick to lift and remove the template to reveal the white number beneath. Leave the top a smooth, contrasting white, or cover with 1M piped stars. Great for a smash, birthday or anniversary cake, or try a question mark for a gender reveal party!

Now go forth and boldly decorate! No matter which technique you attempt, we’re here to help. Check each project for specific tips or post your questions below. Want to show off your amazing results? Tag us on Instagram using @WiltonCakes.
