Make Cake Decorating Your New Year’s Resolution!

January 27th, 2010 by Shawn Broda

A new year is a great time to learn something new – how about cake decorating? Wilton Method courses are fun, easy to follow and SO useful! You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll use even the most basic cake decorating techniques. Whether you want to make a cake for a child’s birthday, create fancy hors d’oeuvres, or have ambitions towards wedding cakes and more, you can learn it in a Wilton Method course. Bring a friend and share the fun, you won’t regret it.

Wilton Instructor and StudentWhen I first learned to decorate 15 years ago, I had no idea my Western Boot cake iced in Terra Cotta buttercream would be the start of a family tradition. Now, Auntie Shawn’s cakes are famous (at least in my family!), and I love being able to make our celebrations extra special. And all it took was a few lessons from a fabulous Wilton Method Instructor – thanks Sandy!!

I took a beginners course 40 years ago. Sorry to say, I haven’t decorated a cake in about 20 years. Since grandchildren have started to come, I’ve taken Course 1 to catch up on new techniques and products and will start Course 2 next week. I had forgotten just how much I enjoyed decorating cakes and am so happy to do it again. Thanks Wilton, I love the class and my teacher is fantastic.

I decided to take classes in the fall of 2009 and have fallen in love with cake decorating. I have 2 classes left to complete the entire program. I am hoping to go to the Wilton School in the next several years so that I can learn more. I find myself visiting the Wilton site at least 3 times a week for more ideas!

I have just recently started to decorate cakes. My grandmother decorated cakes for years. I watched her an wanted to learn so much. But I never had the time. Now my kids are 12 and 10 an I have decided to try a little harder this year to make more cakes. I havent taken a cake decorating class. Where I live no one offers them. I have been making my nieces and nephews along with my kids birthday cakes for the last year. I just got asked to make my first wedding cake. It will be 3 tiers. I have never made a tiered cake but I have practiced with the fondant. I hope this turns out good. I guess i will just have to see. The wilton website along with your books have helped me tremendously. So with that said One of my new years resolutions is to make more and better cakes.

I’m very excited about the classes and look forward to completing them all. I have met very nice people and they too are continuing to take the courses with me.
