The Original Classic Wilton Fondant is Back

We appreciate the feedback we’ve received on both the original and new formulations on Wilton fondant, however, the Original Classic Ready-to-Use Fondant is no longer manufactured and is not available for purchase.

As a 22 year Wilton employee, I understand how important it is that we listen to our consumers, as we strive to continually make cake decorating easier and better for everyone, from beginner to professional cake decorator.

    Frankly, I didnt use the classic fondant to cover my cakes because it taste terrible and I wont cover my cakes with something that taste that bad. I want my cakes to look beautiful and most importantly taste good. The classic is also too hard to work with too. I did buy the decorator preferred to make some flowers with and to taste it, I like the way it taste and how easy it is to work with. I havent tried to cover a cake with it yet, but I will stick to my buttercream for now thank you very much.

      Terri I agree 100%. The original taste terrible. I have been going to a cake shop to buy my fondant but now I will try the new decorators preferred fondant.

    Yeah!! Although when covering cakes, Decorators Preferred Fondant, is what I choose, due to its elasticity. But it is the more dense fondant I choose to do modeling. I am so happy to have both options again 🙂

Good to know i havnt made many cakes latly since you guys switched the preferred is wat to soft and does not work well for covering cakes I prefer the classic for sure but please start carting it in stores I don’t do much ordering on line and I feel horrible when I have to turn down a cake order because I don’t feel comfortable makeing it with the preferred fondant thank you so much for this info though

    Yes pleas carry in stores. It’s faster to go down to the store and pick it if need at last minute and by the time you order it… Please put it back in the stores. Thanks

    Oh, you have no idea how happy this announcement made me! I do like the new fondant for covering cakes, it really is soft and pliable, but it really don’t work for making flowers or modeling figures as well as the classic fondant you had before. What a relief no droopy characters!! I was doing Google searches and checking eBay to see if anyone had a stash they were selling:)

    YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!! Thank you for listening! It would be nice to have it in stores, and myself personally the Classic fondant hardens quicker, yes, which I love but I didn’t have a problem with taste. The newer Decorator’s Preferred colored fondant tastes extremely horrible! I’ve tasted the older ones and assured my customers that they didn’t have to worry about taste (most people are thrown off by fondant) because I knew it taste like vanilla. Until last min. I ran to the store to get fondant, found they had the newer fondant, covered my cake with red fondant, and picking up the scraps I was able to taste which left me frowning and spitting out the pieces. At any rate I’m glad to have the classic back now, I’ll take it. Thank you!

    Thank you Eric! I found the blog 🙂 I also would love to try this “New/Old” product! I would love to see it in the stores also…even if in the larger boxes…I love the larger box idea…less trips to the store. I noticed if you spend over $50 shipping is free, but I so many time run out of fondant or have a last min cake I need to run and grab fondant for…so yes, hopefully it will be in stores soon also 😉

    As others have stated..!!! Glad the Classic is back… But, being able to purchase at local retail (aka Walmart, etc.) and in 1.5 lb quantities…, will increase your sales… in the long run. Especially to the small independent Cake Bakers.!! And there are “Many” of us..!!
    Please make the Classic available in stores and in small or large quantities..

    OMG!!!! Whooooo hooooo this is the BEST news I’ve heard all day.. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH .. Once again I am excited to get cake orders instead of terrified… I just ran around the house letting my husband and kids know..       ok. So, I’m replying to my own email. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE put this fondant back into stores ASAP!!! I’m getting orders for wedding cakes for next year and need to be able to dash to Michael’s or Joanne’s to pick up emergency pack. Please also make them available in the larger boxes. WE ARE BEGGING YOU. You’ve already gone through the trouble of bring it back so it shouldn’t be much harder to put them back in our local craft shops as well as offer them in the original larger boxes. Businesses like our need larges boxes for storage, production etc….Thank you so much.

    Will we ever see the original fondant back in the stores? I have been making my own and it is working out great, the problem is I am older and struggling with my hands with all the neading making my own. It would be so much kinder on my hands to just start buying it again.

    It hasn’t been a year since this posting about how great the two different fondants are and how it is available to purchase the old classic formula in bulk….and it’s now NOT AVAILABLE from the online store….why has it been discontinued even though you clearly understand the need for both?

    I’m very disappointed.

    Will we ever see the old fondant back? I’m sick of trying to work with this junk you have made, even though I am making my own I still add a small amount of yours and it messes up my homemade one, surely you must have seen sales drop. I am very frustrated with Wilton right now, hobby lobby doesn’t even carry your products anymore.

    No matter what I do, big or small cake, the new fondant does not roll out entirely smooth and/or stay smooth when applying to cake. I keep getting very small little imperfections that I end up having to fill in with frosting. Almost like large pores on ones skin (only way I can describe). Never had this problem with the old formula. Its getting to the point where I may have to look at a different product if I cannot figure out a way to fix the problem. Has anyone had this problem, if so, what did you add to the fondant that helped? Please bring back the old formula…why change something that was working just great?
