Summer Color Trend: Blue is the New Black

July 13th, 2015 by Emily Easterly

When I think of summer color trends, my mind immediately went to blue. Whether it’s because I’m looking at the sky on a beautiful day, or just wishing I was at the beach relaxing beside the beautiful blue ocean- blue is everywhere! The number of shades are almost limitless – soft baby blues, sky, teals, neons, brights, royals, navy and many more.

Navy blue in particular is very trendy right now. It pairs so well with many different colors, from pastels and metallics to other brights and bolds. It stands out and can bring a great contrast to your cake designs, no matter the medium. To pair different colors like the icing on these cupcakes, the Color Right Color Performance System gives you endless opportunities to create different shades of blue. Play with colors for buttercream, royal icing and fondant with our Color Mixing Chart.

Denim can also be found everywhere this summer. Fashion has always been a big influence in cake design over the years, and this year isn’t any different. You can take something as classic as denim and create cakes with a fun modern twist. For this Denim Chevron Cake, we used a Burlap Pattern Roller and Color Mist™ Food Color Spray for a neat, textured look. The color blue really helps brings it all together.

Blue can be clean and classic, yet also add style and sophistication like with this geometric cake.
