The Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Art – Celebrating a Sweet Expansion

April 25th, 2013 by Emily Masini

At Wilton, we are proud of our 85 year history. What started as a small school in the dining room of Dewey McKinley Wilton’s Chicago home has grown into an internationally-recognized school of cake decorating and confectionery art. Students from over 100 countries and all 50 states have attended.
When we began gathering ideas for the Wilton School remodel, we asked our students what they thought would improve their school experience the most. They overwhelming told us a baking classroom befitting of all the sweet treat making classes we offered and an expanded space for the Master’s Classroom. We took this suggestion plus others and incorporated them into our design plans. After months of planning and construction, we are very proud to announce that we have officially completed the remodel and expansion of The Wilton School.

The project was divided into two construction phases. The first phase began in October 2012 with a complete remodel of the newly-leased space adjacent to the previous school/store location. We added 4,000 square feet to the school, which almost doubles the previous space! We wrapped up the first phase of construction and began hosting classes in the new space in January 2013.

Students who have joined us since construction finished have been treated to a brand new Master Classroom with custom designed student work stations, audio/visual class components and more individual workspace. The new reception area, student lounge and additional administrative spaces are also housed in this expanded area.

The second phase of construction began in January 2013. During this phase of construction we focused on the remodel of the previous school space. Construction was completed at the end of February. We now have a fully-functioning kitchen, expanded storage areas and a new Baking Classroom with stainless steel student work stations, audio/visual class components, expanded student workspace, and new baking equipment.

We are excited to share this beautiful space with those who are as passionate about cake decorating and confectionery art as we are. We invite returning students, potential students and curious Wilton fans to join us on Saturday, June 8 when we host our Open House.

For information about our Open House or to inquire about upcoming classes, please give us a call at (630) 810-2888. The Wilton School is located at 7511 Lemont Road at 75th Street in Darien, Illinois. Information about the Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Art can also be found online.

Hi I love baking it is my favorite thing to do , I love to use Wilton things and I love your book. I am 11 years old and can do fondant and decorate like crazy so I would love to come to your school to learn more. I was wondering if you were thinking of making a store and school in New Jersey so more people can come. I would always shop at your store and try and attend your school. Your baking line is amazing and your school seems awesome but I think you should look into branching out with your school as well as your store you can make more money if you do because people from all over would go to a place near them. It is sometimes hard to shop at the stores that have your stuff because they don’t have everything people need. PLEASE take time to think about BRANCHING OUT!
