How to Hard-Boil Eggs

Step 1: Place eggs in a saucepan and cover completely with cold water (up to an inch above the eggs). Place the pot over medium high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.

Step 2: Turn off the heat, cover the pan and let the eggs sit for at least 12 to 15 minutes. Carefully remove the eggs, rinse in cold water and let come to room temperature before dyeing.

If you plan on eating your eggs, you can also add a teaspoon of salt to the water before boiling. This will make the eggs easier to peel when you’re ready to eat them!

Preparing Your Countertop

How to Dye Easter Eggs with Food Coloring

Step 1: Prepare your egg colors. 
Pour ¾ cup of boiling water into each muffin pan cup. A jumbo muffin pan has cavities that make it easy to dunk an entire egg, however, a regular muffin pan works well too.

Squeeze a few drops of concentrated food coloring into each cavity, stirring with a spoon until the color has distributed evenly. If you’re feeling creative, mix colors to create even more colorful options.

Step 2: Add the vinegar. 
Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to each prepared color, stirring to dissolve.

Step 3: Start coloring your eggs! 
Using a metal spoon, lower your hard-boiled egg into the colored water. You can do a quick dip for a lighter color or let it soak in a dye bath for a darker shade. Try dipping each half in two different egg dyes or dip one egg in several colors for a unique look!

Set your food colored eggs aside to dry – either on the cooling grid or back in the carton.

Step 4: Decorate!
