Tomato and Rosemary Focaccia

Friday, September 21st, 2018

If there’s one shining star of the early fall harvest season, it just might be the humble tomato.

A steadfast hero of many dishes, tomatoes spend the long summer days soaking up the sun on the vine until they’re ready to harvest as summer comes to a close. And just in time to ring in autumn on the last official day of summer, we’re bringing out a simple yet fresh Italian flatbread recipe. Studded with juicy tomatoes and sprinkled with fresh rosemary, this Italian focaccia bread is the perfect addition to any pasta dinner, or with a simple salad out on the porch while you soak up those last few rays of the summer sun. 8-Flavor Filled Bake Sale Recipes

Earlier this fall, I was walking out of our church and happened upon several friends gathered around a table of sweets overflowing with little bags and bundles of various treats from oatmeal cookies and chocolate brownies to rice cereal squares and another cereal sweet snack fondly known as “puppy chow” (my daughter’s favorite).  I learned that the bake sale was inspired by a few teens who wanted to send relief to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The word spread quickly, resulting in an abundant selection of family favorites begging for a buyer to support the teens’ mission.  A familiar scene no doubt was happening outside churches, schools, fields and store fronts in many towns across the nation, raising money not only for hurricane victims, but soccer teams, marching bands, class trips, dance troops, football teams and a myriad of other causes, banking on the draw of yummy, home-baked sweets and the big hearts of friends and neighbors.

6 Flavored Buttercream Frosting Recipes

Monday, August 7th, 2017

6 Flavored Buttercream Recipes | Wilton Cake DecoratingThe perfect compliment to a delicious cake is luscious buttercream made from scratch. Even if you’ve never made buttercream frosting before, you’ll find it’s quite simple to make. All of the recipes below, except for the key lime buttercream recipe, are made with half butter and half shortening. If you prefer your frosting to be all butter or all shortening, you can easily substitute the amount called for in the recipe.

For the smoothest buttercream, I highly recommend sifting your confectioners’ sugar before starting. I find this makes it the best consistency! Always beat your butter and shortening together first until the mixture is light and fluffy. Follow the instructions for each recipe regarding any liquids (such as vanilla) or other flavorings that need to be added. Add confectioners’ sugar one cup at a time, beating after each addition.

Tired of plain old buttercream? Try out one of these delicious flavored buttercream recipes below!
