Even with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I’m able to bake delicious cookies for my holiday gift giving thanks to my cookie press. I love my Cookie Pro™ Ultra II!
If you’ve never used a cookie press you must try one this holiday season. Not only is it easy to use, but you can make multiple batches of cookies at one time which is great for holiday parties, cookie exchanges or gift giving.
Whether you prefer an automatic cookie press like the Cookie Master™ Plus Cordless Cookie Press or a manual one like the Cookie Pro™ Ultra II, Wilton offers several models that are all comfortable, easy to use and create fun shaped cookies in no time.
The key to making great pressed cookies is having the right dough. Do not use refrigerated dough as it will not retain its shape as well. You’ll want to use a spritz cookie recipe and Wilton offers a great traditional recipe as well as many delicious spritz cookie recipes both sweet and savory.
It’s also important to make sure the dough is at room temperature. If you find the dough has gotten too warm, put it in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes to bring it back to room temperature and the right consistency. Once the dough is ready, simply roll it into a log shape and insert it into the barrel of the cookie press and choose a cookie disk to start making cookies.
A variety of cookie disks come with the cookie press so you can make different festive shapes – simply remove the ring and replace the disk for a fun new shape. On an ungreased cookie sheet, rest the cookie press firmly and squeeze the trigger to make a cookie. Repeat until the cookie sheet is filled. The clear barrel makes it easy to know when it’s time to refill with more dough.
Don’t be discouraged if the first couple of cookies don’t come out perfect. You’ll soon find you’ll be making perfect shaped spritz cookies after a few tries. For even baking, bake the same shapes together. Your cookies are now ready for decorating.
Decorating is always the fun part for me. There are so many ways you can decorate your spritz cookies. I like to add festive sprinkles and colored sugars before baking… it’s that easy! I always have the 6-Mix Christmas Sprinkle Assortment nearby as it offers a nice variety of colorful sprinkles.
Another quick way to give color to your cookies is to tint your dough using the Holiday Icing Colors Set before making your cookies. Once baked, you can dip them in Candy Melts® or drizzle Cookie Icing and add your favorite nuts or topping.
