How to Make Candy-Coated Pretzels

Ingredients

  • Pretzel rods or twists
  • Candy Melts candy: Candy Melts candy is available in a wide variety of colors and flavors. Mix and match colors to suit your occasion!
  • EZ Thin Dipping Aid: EZ Thin makes it easy to thin your melted candy to the perfect consistency for dipping and drizzling. It’s odorless and colorless, so it won’t change the color or taste of your candy.

Tools

  • Candy Decorating Squeeze Bottle: This candy squeeze bottle can be used to drizzle candy over your pretzels or as a dipping container for tall pretzel rods.
  • Pretzel Treat Bags: Great for gifting and packaging your decorated pretzels.
  • Tall dipping container or mixing bowl: For pretzel rods, you’ll want a tall dipping container, such as a drinking glass, to hold your melted candy. For smaller pretzels, a medium mixing bowl should work just fine.
  • Parchment or waxed paper: This prevents your candy from sticking to a metal surface (such as a baking pan) as it sets.
  • Candy dipping tools: If you’re planning to dip pretzel twists, use the candy dipping fork to hold your pretzels for easy dipping and transferring.

Step 1: Melt the Candy

Melt your candy according to package instructions. If you’re dipping pretzel rods, make sure your dipping container is tall enough to cover as much of the pretzel that you want covered in candy.

If you’re dipping pretzel twists, you can use a microwave-safe bowl or candy melting pot to melt your candy.

Step 2: Dip and Dunk Pretzels

Dip your pretzel rods into the melted candy. Tap pretzel on edge of container to smooth and remove excess candy.

For pretzel twists, use the fork tool to dip your twists into the melted candy. Tap fork on edge of bowl or melting pot to remove excess candy.

How to Thin Candy Melts Candy

If your candy is too thick or has been overheated, you can add EZ Thin Dipping Aid or solid vegetable shortening to thin it out.

Do not add liquid, such as milk or water, to your candy. This will cause it to seize, rendering it unusable.

Once dipped, place pretzels on parchment or waxed paper-covered baking sheet. Chill until candy is set, about 10 minutes.

Step 3: Drizzling and Decorating Candy Pretzels

For added color, you can drizzle your pretzels with another color of Candy Melts candy. To do this, melt the second color of candy in a decorating bag or squeeze bottle. Drizzle over candy-coated pretzels. Chill until set, about 5 minutes.

If you’re adding sprinkles, nonpareils, nuts or other toppings to your pretzels, be sure to add them immediately after dunking your pretzels in the melted candy. Candy Melts set up fairly quickly, so you want to add any toppings before the candy sets.
